Although the "Pavillion" as we have chose to call it, fulfills certain needs of the original house, such as the swimming pool and some facilities for social events, it cannot be considered an addition to the "Elizondo House". Although they coexist within the same site, each one has its own access and communicate with each other only through the garden.
The project has in fact a very small number of elements in its program, which at first sight would not ask for a very difficult architectural solution. However, it had an extremely compromising location in the site, which due to its topography demanded a very careful and delicate intervention.
Finally, the proposed solution was more landscape oriented, than architecture oriented, searching to disappear the form of the building as such, burying it in part and making its roof work as an extension of the main garden. As a result, a large, wood paved panoramic terrace allows to enjoy the spectacular views of the Sierra Madre mountain.
Regarding the relation between the old and the new, we pursued to establish a dialogue between both projects. Although their geometries are radically different from a composition point of view, their façades have a number of elements in common, such as the large long beams that accentuate the horizontality in both cases.
At the same time, the colors and materials were repeated in a 100%, including white stucco, travertine marble, oak wood, river pebbles and pine wood decks.
