The
company "Actualizaciones Para Computadoras", better known as APC,
asked us to design their new headquarters.
The concept of a building that encloses on itself, seems to be the
most appropriate one, due to the intense sun from the west, as well
as the poor views that the street had to offer. Once, this decision
was taken, the internal patios are defined, which will work as light
cubes, enhancing the working areas with natural light and creating
a more enjoyable place to work, due to the vegetation they contain.
On the other hand, the formal language of the 'minimal box' as an
aesthetic proposal was defined while analyzing the requirements of
the program, which forced us to push the setbacks, as well as the
height, permitted by law, to the limit. Those municipal requirements,
demanded us to create a compact scheme that would allow to make the
most of the available land.
Due to the massivity of the proposal, we tried to create a lightness
effect, pushing back the structure by 3 meters and giving it a cantilevered
solution, so that we could avoid any structural support on the façade
of the building, achieving an effect of 'flotation' in the main mass
of the building.
At the same time, the treatment of the main facade pretends to be
logical with its poor orientation and views, reason for which we proposed
an abstract composition of thin, horizontal and vertical windows,
searching for an image of technology that would relate with the company,
with the digital era.
